The Washington State Patrol is investigating a collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 1:15 am on Jan. 23 south of Renton.
The motorcycle, a Harley Davidson, struck a steel gate while traveling on the Cedar River Trail, a pedestrian/bike path that parallels the Maple Valley Highway (state Route 169).
The incident began around 1 a.m. in the City of Renton when two speeding motorcycles attempted to elude a trooper who was trying to conduct a traffic stop. The motorcycles split up, forcing the trooper to try and stop the Harley Davidson.
The Harley Davidson proceeded southbound on SR 169 before entering the Cedar River Trail. The driver of the Harley Davidson continued south on the Cedar River Trail before making a u-turn and traveling north toward Renton.
Through this maneuver, the trooper lost site of the suspect, who remained on the pedestrian/bike trail.
Law enforcement eventually located the motorcycle and driver at SE 174th Avenue, near the pedestrian/bike path. Attempts to revive the suspect were unsuccessful and the subject died at the scene.
Detectives are seeking witnesses that may have seen the collision or any event leading up to the incident. Detectives are also looking for additional leads on identifying the second motorcyclist and information on where these two subjects were prior to the incident.
