Two people, including a Washington state trooper, were injured in a three-vehicle accident at about 8 a.m. Tuesday on State Route 169 near Jones Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The trooper, 30-year-old Thomas Zielinski of Maple Valley, was stopped behind a semi-truck and trailer at a traffic signal when his patrol cruiser was struck from behind by a 2008 Kia Rio, according to the state patrol.
The Kia’s driver is a 46-year-old Maple Valley man. The truck driver, a 56-year-old Monroe man, was not injured.
Both men were taken to Valley Medical Center for treatment. Zielinski was released Tuesday afternoon.
The truck was drivable, but the two passenger vehicles were totaled, according to the state patrol.
The accident is under investigation by the state patrol, including whether drugs and alcohol were involved.
