The suspect in the robbery of the USbank branch in downtown Renton last Thursday was arrested Monday in Seattle – the suspect in a bank robbery there.
Through photos, Renton Police were able to determine that the Seattle suspect is the same man suspected in the Renton robbery, according to Renton Police Commander Paul Cline.
The suspect, who is in custody, would face charges in Seattle as well as in Renton.
Details of the Seattle arrest weren’t immediately available from the Seattle Police Department. The University of Washington Police Department also was involved in the arrest.
The USbank branch on South Second Street in Renton was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the Renton Police Department.
However, the suspect dropped the money when a dye pack included with the money exploded, covering the money and the man’s hands with red dye, according to police.
Bank employees reported that the suspect, a black male, entered the bank and approached a bank teller with a note demanding money. No weapon was seen. The bank teller handed the suspect the money, along with the dye pack.
The suspect fled the bank and ran south. When the dye pack exploded, the suspect dropped the money and his wallet, according to police. A witness outside of the bank saw the suspect running away from the exploded dye pack with red dye on his hands.
The suspect fled the area in a red compact vehicle, according to police.
