Renton Police investigators have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old Tukwila man Sept. 7, but as of Friday morning no arrest has been made.

Abdullahi Jama died in the parking lot of the Jet Vista Apartments on Taylor Avenue Northwest at about 8:30 p.m. A 17-year-old boy whose name hasn’t been released also was wounded; he underwent surgery at Valley Medical Center.

A Renton apartment and two vehicles believed related to the case were searched for evidence Thursday, said Terry Vickers, a Renton Police Department spokeswoman.

Renton investigators also are preparing to send the case to county prosecutors for filing of charges.

“It’s not uncommon to submit a case to the prosecutor when the suspect is not in custody, and that is the situation in this case,” said Vickers.

It’s believed the suspect fired the fatal shot and wounded the teen, said Vickers. The teen and the victim were at the apartment complex “to conduct a business transaction,” Vickers said. They didn’t exchange gunfire with each other or the suspect.

The investigation had been hindered by an unwillingness of some witnesses to step forward, Vickers said.

Jama’s death was ruled a homicide by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died of a gunshot wound to the torso.

The shooting in the apartment complex’s parking lot was reported 8:40 p.m. The location is near Renton Avenue South and Rainier Avenue South.
