The warm weather this weekend means that summer is here, filled with outdoor movies, Renton River Days and, of course, the Fourth of July.
The Fourth of July celebration is noon to 10:30 p.m. at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park on Lake Washington Boulevard.
The 20-minute fireworks display culminates the day at about 10 p.m.; residents are encouraged to enjoy the fireworks as an alternative to their own fireworks, which are banned in the city. The display is also visible from hills surrounding the lake.
The annual event features free children’s inflatables and
face-painting from noon to 8 p.m. and stage entertainment from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Food will be available at the beach concession stand, Ivar’s and Kidd Valley.
Parking is available in Boeing lots at North Sixth Street and Park Avenue North and North Sixth Street and Garden Avenue North. Free Shuttle Express service will be provided
to the park from these lots from 9 a.m. to approximately midnight.
Additional parking is available for a fee at The Bristol Apartments at Southport, located between Coulon Park and Boeing.
Since 2005, there has been a total ban on the use, sale and possession of any fireworks within the city limits of Renton.
The Renton Police and Fire departments will actively enforce the ban and will work jointly to issue citations and confiscate fireworks. Violators are subject to both criminal and civil citations and can be fined $100 to $500.
As the weather warms, officials are urging that those enjoying the rivers and lakes use care, including wearing a lifejacket.
If headed to a trail or woods, the American Red Cross recommends that you plan ahead follow common sense safety precautions. The safety tips are available on the Red Cross web-site at www.seattleredcross.org.
The Red Cross suggests reviewing in advance the equipment, supplies and skills needed for an outing and how to handle emergencies that arise.
