An estimated 5,000 Sikhs from across the region participated in the third Sikh Day Parade and community gathering Saturday in Renton and Kent.

“It’s getting quite big,” said organizer Dimple Thiara of the parade.

The Vaisakhi festival celebrates the founding of the Sikh community known as the Khalsa. Major parades are held throughout the Northwest and in British Columbia.

The parade, with seven floats, started at the Gurudwara Singh Sabha of Washington temple on Talbot Road South in Renton and worked its way to Springbrook Elementary School in Kent.

At Springbrook, the crowd enjoyed booths, food, vendors and a children’s area.

The Renton Police Department handled traffic control for the parade.
