Three people wounded in shootout outside sports bar in Skyway

An early morning gunfight Thursday in Skyway has left three people wounded, none with life-threatening injuries, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the injured parties was booked into the King County Jail.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at Champ’s Sports Bar, 12544 Renton Ave S., according to Sgt. John Urquhart, a sheriff’s spokesman.

According to Urquhart, a deputy was doing paperwork in his patrol car about a block away from the bar when he heard a gunshot, follow by several more shots and then sporadic shots. He radioed for additional deputies, then headed toward the bar.

A fight had developed in the bar’s parking lot and at least two people, maybe more, pulled guns and started shooting, according to Urquhart. When deputies arrived, none of the shooters and no victims could be initially located.

However, a car tried to leave the parking lot and deputies found one of the passengers, a 30-year-old Seattle man, had been shot in the groin. He was interviewed, then taken to Harborview.

Shortly thereafter, deputies went to Valley Medical Center in Renton, where the emergency room was treating a gunshot wound victim, according to Urquhart. The 35- year-old Burien man had been dropped off at the door of the hospital. He was shot at least once during the Skyway altercation.

A third victim was located by Seattle Police about 1:20 a.m. at his home in Seattle. He had been shot in the leg. The 24-year-old was transported to Harborview and held for investigation of assault charges from the shooting, as well as two warrants from California, according to Urquhart. He remains at Harborview under guard.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Additional arrests are possible, according to Urquhart.
