The paperwork has been filed and now the long slog through election season is under way.
Candidates for a wide range of political positions made their intentions known last week, filing with the Office of the Secretary of State or the King County Elections.
The deadline for candidates to file was May 19. Candidates were also able to withdraw from the running by May 22.
Candidates’ names will first appear on the Aug. 1 primary ballot and by virtue of Washington’s “top two” system, a pair of finalists – regardless of party affiliation – will advance to November’s general election.
Renton City Council
In the running for city of Renton council Position No. 1 is incumbent Randy Corman with Neil Sheesley as his opponent.
Council Position No. 2 also has incumbent Armondo Pavone in the running against Max J. Heller, III and Diane Dobson.
Renton council Position No. 6 will be chosen between Ruth Perez, the incumbent, Jami Smith and Carl Eshelman.
Running for city of Renton municipal court judge is incumbent Terry L. Jurado with no registered opponents.
Renton School District
Two candidates have put their names into the ring for Director District No. 2 and District No. 5 position with the Renton School District.
Avanti Bergquist has filed for Director District No. 2. Bergquist is running without an opponent and will fill the position Al Talley held before he died in March 2017.
Pam Teal is running for another term as Director District No. 5. She does not have an opponent filed against her.
Issaquah School District
There are two open positions within the Issaquah School District, Director District No. 2 and District No. 4.
After a candidate withdrew from running, there is only one candidate listed for the District No. 2 position. Current District No. 2 director Marnie Maraldo is the only candidate running.
Lisa Callan, incumbent for District No. 4, is the only candidate running for that position.
Newcastle City Council
Two candidates have filed for the council Position No. 5.
Incumbent Rich Crispo will go up against Dave Mitchell.
Two new candidates will take a stab at council Position No. 6. Tamra Kammin and Maggie Riley have both filed.
And new comer Tom Magers is the only candidate who has filed for council Position No. 7.
Cedar River Water & Sewer District
There are two candidates vying for commissioner position No. 1 for the Cedar River Water & Sewer District.
The two in the running are Gregg MacDonald and Steve Puryear.
Soos Creek Water & Sewer District
There are two positions up for election this year, commissioner position No. 1 and No. 2.
Recently appointed commissioner Merle Reeder has thrown his name into the race for Position No. 2 along with Micah Steinhauer and Alan Eades.
While incumbent Steve Pfaff is the only candidate listed for Position No. 1.
King County
Four candidates have filed for county executive. Incumbent Dow Constantine will run against Bill Hirt, Stan Lippmann and Goodspaceguy.
Vying for county sheriff is incumbent John Urquhart and opponent Mitzi Johanknecht.
Rod Dembowski is the only candidate who has filed for Metropolitan King County Council District No. 1 position. He also currently holds that position.
Incumbent Kathy Lambert has an opponent for the County Council District No. 3 position in John Murphy.
Dave Upthegrove and Pete von Reichbauer have both filed to keep their positions as District No. 5 and District No. 7.
Current District No. 9 Councilman Reagan Dunn has an opponent in Denice Carnahan.
