Drivers who use the southbound State Route 167 and Rainier Avenue South exit lanes on southbound Interstate 405 in Renton should prepare for a new configuration starting as soon as Sunday morning, May 21.
On Saturday evening, May 20, construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to combine the two lanes of southbound I-405 that currently exit to southbound SR 167 (Exit 2A) and Rainier Avenue South (Exit 2B) into a single lane. This traffic shift will remain in place for at least several months.
This change is necessary in order to provide construction crews enough space to create a new construction work zone. They will use this area to prepare for building a new flyover ramp connecting the I-405 carpool lanes to the SR 167 high occupancy toll lanes as part of the I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector Project.
Upcoming ramp closures
- Friday, May 19, to the morning of Sunday, May 21 – The southbound I-405 off-ramp to Rainier Avenue South will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
- Friday, May 19, to the morning of Sunday, May 21 – The southbound I-405 off-ramp to southbound SR 167 will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
