Training for the volunteers for the annual Cedar River Salmon Journey is Thursday (Sept. 13) at Renton Technical College.

The training is 7 p.m.-9:15 pm. at the college, 3000 N.E. Fourth St., Renton.

The Cedar River Salmon Journey is a free public outreach and education program that takes place on the Cedar River in the Renton and Maple Valley area each fall. Volunteers will receive 20 hours of training in September from fish, interpretation and watershed experts.

Once trained, volunteers commit to work in teams along the Cedar River talking with people about our salmon and water. Program sites include the Renton Library, Cedar River Park, Riverview Park, Cavanaugh Pond and Landsburg Park and Dam.

Sponsors of the program, now entering its 15th year, include Brown Bear Car Wash, City of Renton, King Conservation District, Friends of the Cedar River Watershed, Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Public Utilities, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the WRIA8 Salmon Recovery Council.
