Renton Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for the Mayor’s Day of Concern Sept. 27.
The volunteers will stand outside three Renton grocery stores, distributing grocery lists to shoppers. The food will go to the Salvation Army Renton Rotary Food Bank.
The three grocery stores are the QFCs in the Highlands and on Petrovitsky and the downtown Renton Thriftway.
Volunteers will work one-hour shifts on that Saturday, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
The Mayor’s Day of Concern has gone on for at least 15 years, says Terry Masango, Renton Salvation Army captain.
He hopes the event will bring in at least 5,000 pounds of food to the food bank this year.
The number of food bank customers has increased during this economic downturn, Masango says.
“Any help people can give us would be very welcome,” he says.
The food bank accepts donations year-round. All food is welcome. But no glass bottles.
The food bank is open to all families living in Renton or Skyway, regardless of income.
