Renton police were told that a Seattle woman was stabbed in the arm at about 4:35 a.m. Sept. 2 as she walked on North Fourth Street.
However, upon further investigation, police uncovered a different story. The suspect is her boyfriend, a Renton man.
When an officer arrived at a house on Williams Avenue North, the victim was holding a towel or rag over her arm and her arm was bleeding, according to police.
She told police that as she was walking from a gas station along North Fourth Street, a male approached her on the north side of the street. The man stabbed her arm and fled on foot. He was wearing a hat and black clothing.
At the residence where they contacted the woman, officers could see blood on the floor and wall just inside the open door. Because of that, officers searched for anyone else in the house. The report noted that a violent crime had occurred in the area recently.
Police found a six-inch kitchen knife with blood on the tip. Officers now suspected the stabbing occurred inside the house.
Outside, an officer interviewed the boyfriend, who said he and his girlfriend argued and she had walked outside to “cool off.” She returned with blood on her arm, the boyfriend told police. But the officer told the man that wasn’t true, because there were indications an assault had occurred inside the home, according to police.
The man then changed his story, saying the woman cut herself with the knife during the argument. She called 911 and told the boyfriend to throw the knife in a closet, according to the report.
The report indicates that although circumstances were suspicious, the boyfriend was arrested, then released. The knife was placed into evidence.
