All city departments were still working to restore normal operations.

As of 11 a.m., Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 194,000 Puget Sound Energy customers, homes and businesses, were still without power.

Work crews from the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department were out taking care of branches and trees where there were safety concerns.

They were also monitoring buildings for ice and safety situations as snow melts.The area is now under flood watch through Saturday afternoon.

The Renton Community Center will be open until 8 p.m., Saturday night, Jan. 21 as a warming shelter.

Other programs were to go on as scheduled, except in the event of a power outage.

There were no specialized recreation programs scheduled and the center will be closed on Sunday.

There are a number of warming shelters in King County open to the general public.

The City of Kent Severe Weather Shelter (SWS) has a cold weather shelter open tonight, Friday, January 20, from 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. at the Kent Lutheran Church,336 2nd Ave South in Kent.

While the shelter gives priority to homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles, it is also available for single women and men.

Separate sleeping spaces are available for men, women, and for families with children.

The SWS is operated by Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from Kent Lutheran Church and the greater Kent community.

Everyone must register at the door. As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of clients, staff and the broader community will apply.

Daytime warming shelters will be open on Saturday at Renton Community Center, 1715 SE Maple Valley Hwy, 8:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m.

The city is not providing transportation to the shelter. Individuals should bring their own snacks, beverages, and entertainment materials with them to the shelter.

Children must be supervised at all times. Animals, except for service animals, are not permitted in the warming shelters.

The Maplewood Golf Course does have power and the driving range and restaurant were to open depending on conditions.

The gates to Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park will be open at noon Saturaday, Jan. 21 and 10 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 22 to access Ivar’s and Kidd Valley.

The rest of the park will remain closed until Monday, when safety checks can be done, as will most community parks for the same reason.

Philip Arnold Park gate will be open, as long as city crews can confirm that it is safe.

The Cedar River Trail from I-405 south to 131st will remain closed through the weekend.While most of the city’s traffic signals are now operational, some signals may continue to lose power.

City officials advised that traffic laws require that unlighted signals be treated as 4-way stops.
