An elderly woman died after a minor traffic collision Friday morning near the intersection of Garden Avenue North and North Park Drive.
The woman was apparently a passenger in the vehicle and died from her life-threatening injuries after police arrived at the scene. According to the early police investigation, the 77-year-old male driver from Issaquah was involved in a minor collision in his 1995 Mercedes on North Park Drive. The woman got out of the car to flag down traffic and she moved behind the vehicle. The driver backed up, running over the woman, then rolled forward into a commercial truck.
The woman was a relative of the driver and apparently visiting from overseas. Police were unable to establish her exact age and home city because of language barriers and the urgency in which treatment efforts were needed, a department release stated.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.
Renton Police are asking any witnesses to the collision to contact Officer Hyett at 425-430-7500, regarding case 13-4998.
