Alma Loree Knowle

Alma Loree Knowle, 91, died early Monday morning March 8, 2010 at her Olympia home.Born July 24, 1918 in Airlie, Oregon to William and Margaret Stonehocker. Alma was the youngest of 11 children. At an early age she moved to Hoquiam, Washington where she attended school, and later to Powell Butte and Prineville, Oregon, where she met and married David Knowle on June 24, 1939. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and afterward the couple settled in Renton for over 30 years. Alma worked 25 years at Seattle’s first Sears, Roebuck & Company Store. Beginning as a secretary in catalog sales and working her way up to office management before retirement. In addition to her career she was a dedicated homemaker who loved traveling and other family activities. Later in life she enjoyed bowling, sewing and reading. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, extended family and friends. Alma and David retired to Lake Nahwatzel for ten years and then settled in Lacey for twenty years more. When David passed away on September 11, 2005, they had just completed 66 years of marriage. Alma married Floyd G. Sutherland on Feb. 28, 2009. Floyd deeply loved Alma – she was so very happy having him as her companion. He took good care of her during the last year of her life. Alma is survived by her husband, Floyd Sutherland of Olympia; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Sally Knowle and Glenn and Linda Knowle, all of Renton, Washington; grandchildren, Karrah and Joshua Rogers of Covington and their children Jacob and Savannah; Marisa and Jeremy Golliet of Renton and their children Damian, Miranda, and Evelyn; Roxanne Knowle of Kent and Ryan Knowle, of Renton. Alma was preceded in death by her step granddaughter, Donica Johnson. Alma’s ten older siblings preceded her in death, including Chester, Earl, Florence, Ethel, Henry, Pearl, Lois, Ray, and Mildred.A funeral service will be held at Woodlawn Life Tribute Center at 1pm on Thursday, March 11 in Lacey.
