April 3, 1941 – September 28, 2022
Betty Lockwood Salvati, age 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 28, 2022, at her home after a long battle with her failing health. Born in Seattle, daughter of the late Vaughn and Helen (Pearson) Lockwood, Betty lived most of her life in the Puget Sound area. She moved to her Renton home in 1968, where she lived for 54 years until her passing.
Betty grew up in Seattle, graduating from Cleveland High School, the class of ’59. In her early twenties, she moved to Germany for a few years and gave birth to both of her two children while abroad. For 30 years, she served King County as a Code Enforcement officer for the Dept of Building and Land Development. Her sweet demeanor and easy smile would put folks at ease while she informed them they would have to bring their projects up to code or clean up their
junk. She would sometimes share funny work interactions with her kids while they were growing up. Betty was also a wonderful cook, with her signature lasagna being a favorite at family gatherings. She understood the importance of family and sacrificed much during her life to make sure they were taken care of and provided them with the opportunities necessary to thrive on their own.
Those who really knew Betty felt her big heart and giving nature. She would say that success wasn’t measured by material wealth, but by how well we help other people. Betty held to that tenet throughout her life and her kindness and love will be sorely missed.
Betty is survived by her son, Bob, his wife, Jenine, her granddaughters, Cierra, Helen and Piper, and her sisters, Donna, Janice, and Penny. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen, her long-time partner, Ted Larson, and her parents.
Her memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 8th, at Greenwood Memorial on Monroe Ave in Renton. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family is requesting donations be made to her favorite charities – St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the A.S.P.C.A.
