Bruce Louis Edmonds passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2012, at the age of 79.He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce G. A. Edmonds born “Edmunds”; mother, Lois Zaharana; stepfather, Paul Zaharana; and brothers, Mike and Monte Edmonds. Bruce was born in Madison, South Dakota on November 25, 1932. He moved to Seattle at the age of 12 and graduated from Franklin High School in 1951. As a high school sophomore, Bruce joined the National Guard and served until March 1953. In January 1954 he joined the United States Marine Corps, attained the rank of Sergeant, and served his country as an aircraft electrician in Hawaii until December 1956. Bruce was particularly proud of his service and affiliation with the Marine Corps. Bruce began a career in law enforcement with the Seattle Police Department in 1958 and retired as a Sergeant – after 36 years of service. He had a diverse, rewarding record of service in many divisions, including Patrol, Communications (The Seattle World’s Fair), Juvenile, Homicide, Motorcycles andTraffic. Following retirement, Bruce worked security at Emerald Downs from 1996 to 2006. In 1999 Bruce was honored as the most valuable security employee for the racing season. Bruce is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen; son, Brian; daughter, Carla (Rich) Search; grandson, Jacob Burton; and granddaughter, Sara Burton. Bruce was a devoted family man who greatly valued his friends. He enjoyed soccer, running, and camping, and had a passion for motorcycles. Bruce was a kind, compassionate man who was happiest when he was helping others. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 12819 – 160th Ave. S.E., Renton, WA. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to theAlzheimer’s Association; 100 W. Harrison St. Suite 200N; Seattle, WA 98119.
