David James Thompson died peacefully July 15, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. He suffered complications from a fall while on vacation. He was 74 years old.
Dave was born on April 16, 1943 in Seattle, Washington to William and Dorothy (McLendon) Thompson.
David grew up in Renton and graduated from Renton High School. Hazelwood was his “Hood” his friendship with the guys endured from elementary school to his last day.
Dave met the love of his life while in college. He married Suzanne Marie (Sauve) Thompson on October 5, 1968, they were together until her death in 2013.
After a couple of various jobs, Dave worked for McLendon Hardware, Inc. for most of his working life, finally retiring at age 70. Grandparents – Pop and Mom McLendon were big influences in his life.
Dave was generous with his time and his heart. He was very civic minded, active in Renton Rotary, Renton Farmers Market and a big supporter of Return to Renton Car Show. He and Suzanne spent many holidays serving meals to seniors and various similar activities, all to the benefit of others.
Dave’s favorite hobby was loving and spoiling his granddaughters, Cyrenna and Morgan Thompson. He loved his girls as only a wonderful grandfather can.
Cars were a lifelong passion for him; if car racing was on the television, no one could interrupt him. He loved golf as well as photography.
Dave’s sense of humor was outrageously unique, with a quick wit and noted for his spontaneity. He was much loved by family and friends.
David is survived by son Joshua Thompson and granddaughters Cyrenna and Morgan Thompson and sisters Joan (Thompson) McCarty and Keri Thompson-Wright.
Services were held on Friday, July 28, 2017.
A small service for family and close friends for placement of the urn will be held August 1st, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Holy Rosary Rd., Moxee, WA 98936
