May 4, 1922—February 17, 2017
Babe was born on May 4, 1922 in Seattle, Washington, to parents James and Helen Zerwoodis. Her mom and dad owned and operated the Spring Hill Market, gas station, malt shop and cabins. It was located at what is now the northbound exit round off I-405 at the Maple Valley Highway.
A life-long resident of Renton, Babe attended Renton schools. She met and married Tom Lambro in 1940 and together they raised their family of five boys in Renton. When the last of her boys were in high school Babe left her ‘job’ as a stay-at-home mom and went into the restaurant business where she owned and operated the Transport Bar and Grill in downtown Seattle from 1968 to her retirement in 1988.
If Babe had one passion other family and working it was horse racing. Starting in 1973 into the mid-eighties she owned and bred raced thoroughbreds at Longacres, Yakima Meadows, and tracks up and down the west coast. She didn’t miss many of their races and when they weren’t entered you could find her many weekends enjoying the races from her box above the racetrack. One of her all-time highlights was attending the 1977 Kentucky Derby to watch Seattle Slew win.
She lost her husband Tom to health problems in 1977. In 1982 she met and married Ken Goudy. They were together close to twenty-five years where they enjoyed travel, fishing and retirement. Babe lost Ken to poor health in 2006. Afterwards she moved to the Houser Terrace Retirement Housing in the Renton Highlands. In 2012 when her health demanded it Babe was moved to the full-care Newport Hill Villa where she resided until her death.
Babe leaves quite a legacy to family that survive her. Among them are her five sons, Harry (Rita), Jim (Barbara), Pete (Sue), Tom (Debbie), Tim (Lana), 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Annika and her staff at Newport Hill Villa care for their care and comfort during Babe’s stay.
