Dorothy Sylvia Carlson Vanderford, 90 of Lewistown, died Friday, October 3, 2008 at Central Montana Skilled Nursing Care Center of natural causes. She was born January 17, 1918 the daughter to Emil and Emma (Siikanen) Carlson in Brennen, ND the youngest in a family of eight. Dorothy moved to Hartford, WA at the age of 3 months and at age 5, they moved to Renton, WA. As a child Dorothy loved to roller skate everywhere she went. She attended Henry Ford Elementary School, Renton Junior High School, graduating from Renton Senior High in 1936. After high school, Dorothy was united in marriage to Bud T. Vanderford on October 24, 1936 in Seattle, WA. They had two children, Arlene and Ted. Dorothy was an avid needle worker, gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in their old Ford Jeep, swimming and all of the various activities in the Washington area. She and Bud loved to dance to the Finish Granges and gatherings they attended. He preceded her in death in 1993 and the next year Dorothy moved to Lewistown to be closer to family.She is survived by one son Ted of Stanfield, OR, one daughter Arlene Turk of Lewistown, one brother George Carlson of Minneapolis, MN and one sister Lempi Cottingham of Seattle, WA. Seven grandchildren Sherry, Patty, Vince, Verna, Teddy, Travis and Michelle, 16 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.Memorial Services for Dorothy S. Vanderford will be held in Renton, WA at a later date. Cremation has taken place at her request. The Cloyd Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.Friends are asked to make memorials to the Central Montana Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of their choice and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.
