Iola Delores Nelson
Ed Nelson said it best: It was one heck of a ride. Iola, beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died on June 23, 2008 at her home, as she wished, with her loving husband of 60 years and children at her side. Born on December 12, 1924, in Galesburg, Illinois, Iola was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Iola was a woman with passions for life and adventure. Skiing, hiking, para-sailing, you name it she was game to try it. In the 1950’s-60’s she participated in the Women’s Trans-Continental “Powder Puff” air races and had many a story to tell from those times. Even in her 60’s she joined a women’s crew team and raced for the opening day of boating through the Montlake Cut. She and husband Edward spent many summers enjoying their boat making many trips all the way to Alaska. Iola was a successful business woman in Renton, Wa for over 50 years owning her own CPA firm and a Taco Time restaurant. She was a gracious, generous woman who will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her husband Edward W. Nelson; her children Michael E. Nelson (Louise), Chris Miner (Tom), Steve Nelson (Michelle), Jennifer Miles (James); and her grandchildren Becky, Jason, Aimee, Joshua, Tyler, Emily and Janna; as well as her sister Helene Becker. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to American Lung Association. There will be a celebration of life at the home of Steve and Michelle Nelson on Saturday, June 28th.
