John married Aleda (Augé) McTigue, on October 2, 1951, in Glendive. The couple raised five children in Renton, except for a few years the family spent in Colorado Springs, Colo., where John’s work took him. While in Renton, John built three family homes.

John and Aleda enjoyed staying connected with their friends from Glendive, and attended many Montana picnics held at Woodland Park in Seattle. They also had many friends in the Seattle area that they frequently visited and entertained in their home.
