Martha Mae Kokko
Born in Renton, WA on May 13, 1919 to Joseph and Ruth Burrrows and peacefully went to sleep March 23, 2011. A lifetime resident of Renton, Mae lived her entire life just two blocks from where she was born. Her family journeyed from Missouri in the 1890’s to settle on the south shore of Lake Washington establishing Burrows Boathouse, Fishing & Hunting Guide Services. The family later made their home in North Renton. She attended Sartori School and graduated from Renton High School class of 1938. Following graduation she worked prior to meeting her husband of 58 years, Carl, and starting a family. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling around the State in their RV and fishing. She also enjoyed attending Mariner ball games. Later years found her always knitting caps to donate and spending time in the kitchen baking cookies and breads. She will be missed for her legendary hand painted cookies during the holidays. Mae is preceded in death by her husband Carl, son Rick and sister Barbara. She is survived by her daughters, Carleen Bell, Susan Kokko and Penny Jones (John), brothers Joe and Homer Venishnick, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 2pm – 4pm at the family home in Renton, WA. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Renton Fire Dept.
