November 8, 1950 – March 16, 2025
Stephen Earl Clymer, 74, of Renton, WA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 16, 2025. His passing was unexpected. A Celebration of Life will be held at Renton Community Center at 1 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Born on November 8, 1950, at Renton Hospital to Earl & Diane Clymer, Stephen grew up in Skyway and later Renton Hill. He attended Renton schools and graduated from Renton High School in 1969. He was proud that his grandchildren would be fifth-generation RHS graduates. Stephen earned an education degree from Seattle University and married Theresa Ann O’Brien on June 29, 1974.
He began his career teaching third grade at Shadow Lake Elementary before exploring other ventures, including doughnut making and running Clymer’s Antique Boutique in downtown Renton. Passionate about antiques, he loved discovering and restoring treasures. His career ultimately led to a 30-year tenure as a finance manager at Boeing before retiring in 2007. One of his most cherished jobs, however, was delivering groceries as a teenager for Johnson’s Grocery.
Stephen loved true crime shows, puzzles, and, most of all, people. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen and valued. Family meant everything to him, and he worked to create a unique bond with each person.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Christina, who died just before her first birthday. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughters Christina (Mark) Jarvis and
Mary (Mike Moskowitz) Clymer; sisters Carren Clymer Donati, Teresa (Bill) Clymer-Flora, and Judy (Eric Bryan) Clymer Austin; grandchildren Gabriella and Nicholas Jarvis; six nephews and nieces; and 14 great-nephews and nieces.
Stephen’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Andrew Brockenbrough for his unwavering support and cherished friendship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Renton Historical Society and the American Diabetes Association.
