Tom “Moose” Staudt

Tom “Moose” Staudt passed away in the early morning hours of May 11, 2010 at the age of 57, after a long struggle with liver cancer. Tom was born November 7, 1952 in Renton, WA and graduated from Renton High School in 1971. He was discharged in the army in 1973 and started work in the drafting field. Tom held various jobs over the years with his final career as a highly crafted carpenter and avid golfer. Tom was given his nickname “Moose” many years ago during his softball years. No one has claimed the whole story, but for sure, it is a good one!His latest and most constant passion has been golf for which he earned a handicap of “6” and was given the acclaimed “Hall of Fame” award at Maplewood Golf Course just this year.On April 3, 2010 the first annual “MOOSEAPALOOZA” Golf Tournament promoting Cancer Awareness was played at Maplewood Golf Course with proceeds exceeding $1,200 donated to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research. Tom is survived by his mother Inez Thornton, father John (Nancy) Staudt and sister Kas Willmon; 3 children, Tamura (Paul) Bainton, Jeff (Brandy) Boswell, and Joshua (Rikki) Staudt, and 5 grandchildren. Tom was able to spend his final moments with his kids which were of great comfort to him. At Tom’s request, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research in Tom’s memory. You can find a tribute page at http://getinvolved.fhcrc.org/goto/MOOSEAPALOOZA Tom once wrote a poem, that in part stated, “The future is hard, for us to all know; To only map out, from now ‘til we go; It’s such a long journey, and never is so; Just as life’s plant, continues to grow.” Tom “Moose” Staudt made an impression on everyone he met, and he has left us all feeling all the better for knowing him. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Moose – and here’s hoping that you are having the best golf game ever!
