A memorial service for Walter “Walt” Eugene Rau, age 82 of Hideaway, is scheduled for 12:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Hideaway Lake Community Church with Pastors Louis Mizell and Mark Richardson officiating. The services are under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale. Walter died Sunday, April 7, 2019 at a nursing home in Lindale, TX. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 25, 1936 to the late Eugene K. and Matilda (Klinger) Rau.

Walter was formerly of Washington State before moving to Texas 10 years ago. He had earlier retired from Boeing as a longtime engineer. He and his wife Marge enjoyed many happy times in the state and national parks and traveling in their RV.

After retirement, he and his wife did volunteer mission work. This took them to Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Africa, and South America. Walter also loved trains and had a large collection of books about trains.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Rau of Hideaway; 2 daughters, Julia Russell and husband, Dick of California and Eileen Rau of Round Rock, Texas. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, Richard and Libby Russell, Elizabeth Russell, Bella Russell, Trey Ulmer, and Eric Ulmer; and one great grandson, Henry Russell. He is also survived by 2 stepchildren, Jennifer Goe of Renton, Washington and Mark Winings of Ft. Worth. Memorials may be made to the National Park Service.
