On Tuesday, April 24, Bill left his earthly body to be reunited in God’s presence with his longtime wife Gaye.
Bill was born to Irish immigrants and raised in Brooklyn, New York. An Irishman through and through, he and Gaye hosted countless St Patrick’s Day parties at their home, and he was a devoted fan of Irish culture and music. He also displayed classic Irish characteristics, including a natural charm and wit, a wonderful sense of humor, a love of people and – on very rare occasions – his famous Irish temper and stubbornness!
He was educated in the Catholic system and graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in economics. A natural salesman, he enjoyed his career in sales very much, finally owning his own small wholesale gift and toy business.
Bill and Gaye enjoyed 46 wonderful and loving years together. They loved to travel, especially to Kauai, which became their favorite place. In later years, they also organized activities for their friends and neighbors, including much-enjoyed bus trips to casinos, during which they entertained the passengers with games and jokes.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by Gaye, and by his brother Richard. He is survived by his and Gaye’s children Jim, Larry and Steven Holmes, Jane, Patrice and Bill McSherry and their families.
A celebration and memorial of Bill’s life will be held 12pm, Thursday, May 10 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 8398 NE 12th Street, Medina, WA.
