I recently read an editorial supporting Donald Trump as someone who can unite our country in a time when we very much need it. Also as someone who is outside the political system and can do more good.

I am a teacher. When serving in a teaching position, one often looks at one’s actions through the lens on the community and how people might feel. There is an expectation that a teacher behave in a way that does not negatively impact the profession and certainly in ways that are legal. It is not a sign of being weak to use language of respect and to act in ways that show respect and caring.

If I were caught on tape talking about sexually assaulting people, I would be fired and would lose my teaching certificate. If I were caught on tape talking about how I use my position of power to get away with sexual assault, the community would be outraged.

Why do some people think that a man who, as landlord, didn’t have any black people in his buildings, who calls Mexican immigrants rapists, and who is on tape talking about sexual assaulting people can unify the people of our country?

If we would not stand for a person of these actions to teach in our community, why would we allow him to lead our nation?
