The 2010 Seagals roster was announced Sunday and for the 28 team members, nearly a month of tryouts and training was complete.

“Initially it wasn’t as competitive as I like to see it,” said Seagals director Sherri Thopmson. “But it really picked up in the finals.”

Thompson and the Seagals choreographers taught fifty-two candidates a dance routine Friday night for the final audition Sunday. It was the first time new hopefuls worked with 2009 Seagals. Seagals members have to try out again every season.

The tryouts started in early April with around 150 women, which is a lower turnout than usual.

“It always cycles like that,” Thompson said. “Next year the numbers will probably be high.”

Thompson cut the hopefuls early in the process based on their dance ability, then as the numbers got smaller she focused on personality.

“They have to have both a good attitude and be able to dance,” she said. “If there’s only 16 great ones, we’ll take 16.”

Candidates performed the dance routine in front of eight judges on finals night before the team was announced at the end of the competition.
