It was an up-and-down weekend for the Renton-area boys basketball teams, but all three are still alive and will play tonight, Tuesday.

RENTON

After opening with a first-round victory over Liberty, the Renton Indians moved on to face Washington High School Saturday in a second-round game at Foss High School.

The Patriots, however, got the best of Renton, topping the Indians 83-68 and forcing Renton in to a loser-out game tonight against Sequim

Renton went out strong against Washington, winning the first quarter 25-19 and then holding on to a 41-37 lead as the two teams went to the locker room.

But Washington turned on the jets in the second half, outscoring the Indians 22-17 in the third quarter and 24-10 in the final frame to secure the win.

Jordan Quigtar led Renton with 21 points in the loss. Ben Comer added 12.

The Indians have another chance to keep their state tournament dreams alive as they take on Sequim at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Curtis High School in a loser-out game.

Sequim lost to Lindbergh in the opening round and then beat North Mason 64-48 on Saturday.

LINDBERGH

After starting their postseason with a 58-49 win over Sequim, the Lindbergh Eagles moved on to face River Ridge in Saturday in the second round of the district tournament.

The Hawks proved too much for Lindbergh, however, topping the Eagles 61-54 on the back of a strong fourth quarter.

River Ridge went out fast, doubling up Lindbergh 18-9 in the first quarter,  but Lindbergh nearly returned the favor in the second as the teams headed to halftime with River Ridge ahead 27-25.

Lindbergh then won the third quarter and the Eagles headed into the final frame with a 45-43 lead. But in the fourth, River Ridge again came alive and again doubled-up the Eagles 18-9 for a final score of 51-54.

Devon Jackson scored 21 points for the Eagles in the loss, followed by Darrien Sawyer-Lamb with 11.

Lindbergh must now face Liberty in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Foss High School to keep their season alive. Liberty began the tournament with a loss to Renton, but rebounded Saturday with a 69-45 win over Bremerton.

HAZEN

After dropping their opening game to Lincoln 72-60 in a triple overtime shocker, the Hazen Highlanders bounced back Saturday with a win to keep on playing.

Hazen on Saturday ended Mt. Tahoma’s season with a 75-63 win over the Thunderbirds and will now face Auburn-Mountainview at 6 p.m. today at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

The winner will move on, the loser’s season ends.
