Austin Clark’s late pin gives Hazen edge against Renton | Wrestling

The Hazen wresting team topped Renton 41-33 Thursday night.

Hazen built a 32-15 lead early in the match after Jonathan Greer (160 pounds), Kyle Ely (189) and Justin Russell (285) picked up pins for the Highlanders.

Renton came roaring back in the lightweights when Aaron Garcia (103), Saugat Chhetri (112) and Chris Tueng (119) all earned pins in the first period. That run gave Renton a 33-32 lead.

At 125 pounds, Hazen’s Tyler Watanabe pulled out a 4-3 decision against Renton’s Loung Sy by taking the lead with three seconds left. That put Hazen back ahead 35-33 with just one match to go.

At 130 pounds, Hazen’s Austin Clark pinned Renton’s Alex Jordan one minute, 48 seconds into the second period to seal the win for Hazen.

Both teams are now done with the regular season. Hazen will compete in the 3A league tournament Feb. 5 at Highline. Renton will compete in the 2A league tournament Feb. 4-5 at Renton High School.
