The Hazen boys basketball team fell to Evergreen 66-65 in overtime Dec. 8.
The Highlanders (2-1) sprinted out to a 15-1 lead to start the game and led 23-7 after the first quarter. Evergreen (3-0) chipped away at the lead until it finally took a 40-39 lead in the third quarter.
Hazen’s R.J. Magar made two free throws to give Hazen a 63-62 lead with one minute, 41 seconds left in overtime, but Evergreen’s Mohammad Sambou made four straight points to give the Wolverines a lead.
Magar led all scorers with 23 points. He is averaging 18 points per game this season. Sambou led Evergreen with 20.
Dewit Kasa made a layup with 20 seconds left to pull Hazen to within one point, but the Highlanders couldn’t come out on top.
Kasa scored 19 points and is averaging 18.3 points per game this season.
Renton
Renton got its first win of the season Wednesday with a 61-44 victory against Tyee.
The Indians (1-2) got 22 points from Thomas Merritt and 19 from Achoki Moikobus.
Lindbergh
Highline was just too much for Lindbergh as the Pirates beat the Eagles 91-62 Wednesday.
Lindbergh (0-2) got 20 points from Derek Roseband and 12 from Shawn Holman.
Highline’s Eric Turner scored 40.
