Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com explains why the team's compensatory seventh-round pick isn't just a late add-on.

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com explains why the team’s compensatory seventh-round pick isn’t just a late add-on.

Seattle will get the 245th pick in the draft, the same spot the team selected safety Courtney Greene last season. The Seahawks picked defensive end Nick Reed (Farnsworth lists the team selecting Reed at 245, but he was drafted at 247) and tight end Cameron Morrah in two other seventh-round selections.

Both Morrah and Reed made the roster and Reed had an impact on special teams last year.

Farnsworth lists some other recent compensatory picks that have had impacts: Ahmad Bradshaw (2007, 250nd pick, Giants), Marques Colston (2006, 252, Saints), Chris Horton (2008, 249, Redskins) and LaRod Stephens-Howling (2009, 240 Cardinals).

The point is, there are plenty of gems to be found late in the draft and with the compensatory pick, the Seahawks get another chance to unearth one.
