Mercer Island’s Michael Weyna, who trains at Renton’s Cascade Canoe & Kayak, won the Men 13 and under 1000-meter, single kayak race Friday at the Lake Placid International Regatta.

Weyna went on to take fourth in the Men 15 and under 1000-meter, four-person kayak with Dylan Pucket and Jessie Rischuuk of Oklahoma City and Brynn Munday of Gig Harbor, Wash.

Teamed with Garen Doyle of San Diego, Weyna finished fifth in the 15 and under, 1000-meter, double kayak.

“Michael continues to build strength and endurance, as well as technical skills, to step further and further ahead of his competition,” said Cascade coach Dan Henderson.

On Day 2 of the competition, Weyna placed third in the Men Juvenile (15 and under) 200-meter with Eric Roux (Seattle), Kevin Stock (San Diego) and Doyle.

Weyna also placed 10th and sixth in other races.

“These were very good results for Michael and a great way to finish Michael’s first international regatta and participation in the National Development Camp,” Henderson said.

Weyna was selected for a two-week U.S.A. National Development Camp held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
