To say Seattle’s Leon Washington had a good game Sunday is a bit of an understatement. The running back returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the Seahawks’ 27-20 win against the Chargers.
Along the way, Washington spun, juked and sprinted his way into the Seahawks’ record books.
Washington’s two returns were from 99 and 101 yards. In one game he became Seattle’s career leader in kickoff returns for touchdowns. He also posted the two longest kickoff returns in franchise history.
Those two returns give him six career returns for touchdowns, putting him in a tie for second place all-time in the NFL. He trails Cleveland’s Josh Cribbs (who has eight and is still active).
Washington missed much of 2009 after a broken leg. The Seahawks acquired him in trade for a fifth-round pick in last April’s draft. The Jets selected running back John Conner out of Kentucky with the pick.
Washington has 380 rushing attempts in his five NFL seasons. He’s averaged 4.8 yards per rush for his career. This season he has 11 carries for 29 yards.
