Football: Chandler Jenkins finds paydirt four times as Liberty dispatches Hazen 56-0

Chandler Jenkins scored four times as Liberty cruised past Hazen 56-0 Friday night.

The Patriots (6-0 overall, 3-0) remain perfect after the non-league win. Liberty’s Marcell Bell took a kickoff back 87 yards to open the game’s scoring.

Then Trey Wheeler found Jake Bainton for a 23-yard touchdown, Kyle Ahrens scored on a 41-yard rush, Tei Staladi scored on a 29-yard rush, Wheeler hit Jenkins for a 38-yard score, and Jenkins score on a 16-yard rush… all before the half.

Liberty scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters and 14 in the third.

Wheeler and Jenkins connected again the third for a 15-yard touchdown. Then Jenkins scored the game’s final points on an 80-yard punt return in the third quarter.

It was Hazen’s (4-3, 4-1) second try against a team near the top of the KingCo 3A/2A this season. The Highlanders fell to Interlake 57-25 on Sept. 4.

Hazen is still in third place in the Seamount and can move into a tie for second with a win against Mount Rainier Friday.

One big test remains in the regular season: Kennedy Catholic Oct. 22.

Liberty remains in first in the KingCo 3A/2A and faces Interlake this Friday.
