Foster hasn’t been in the Seamount long, but the school has already established a searing rivalry with Renton. In the latest chapter Thursday night, Foster came out on top 60-44.

With the loss, Renton (10-10 overall, 10-6 Seamount) moves into a tie for fifth place in the Seamount with Evergreen. The teams will play a tiebreaker Wednesday at 7 p.m. Both teams will make the subdistrict tournament, the game is for seeding.

Foster’s (15-5, 12-4) size gave the Indians trouble inside for much of the night. The Bulldogs have three starters 6-foot-4 or taller.

“They’re just good on the boards,” said Renton coach Rick Comer. “We were concerned about being able to rebound with them. We needed to prevent second shots, that didn’t happen.”

The teams were playing aggressive defense all night. Inside, it was Foster’s Darius Page and Renton’s Laudon Thomas blocking shots. On the perimeter, Renton’s Joseph Powell was constantly disrupting passing lanes.

Achoki Moikobu started hot on the night, making both of his three-point attempts in the first quarter. Powell hit a long three pointer at the buzzer to end the first half. That put the Indians ahead 23-20.

Foster opened a five-point lead by the end of the third quarter and then started the fourth on a 11-2 run.

“We missed more shots than we made and that was the difference in the second half,” Comer said. “They ran some good stuff against our pressure in the second half. They had an answer this time.”

Renton worked to within seven points twice, when D.J. Eubanks made a three-pointer with 2:41 left and when Moikobu made a layup with 2:25 left, but that was as close as they would get.

Perhaps sending a message to new league rivals, with the game in hand and five seconds left, Foster ran down the court and made a layup as time expired to pad the big lead.
