Nine Hazen soccer players made the Seamount all-league teams that were announced yesterday.
Seamount coaches selected players for the teams.
Taylor Hoover, Kayla Hackman and Priscillia Yu made the first team.
Hoover, a senior captain, started all 16 games for the Highlanders. She collected 13 goals and eight assists, with two game-winning goals.
“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching some very effective hard working mid field players – Taylor ranks up there with the best of them,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “Taylor has played several positions in her four year career at Hazen, but she has set the standard for the future central midfielders who will follow her.”
Hackman is a junior striker that led the Seamount with 28 goals.
“I don’t care what defense someone puts on her – double, triple, whatever team, Kayla can beat it,” Matthews said. “She mixes speed with skill so well… As far as I’m concerned, she’s the best forward in our league.”
Yu is a sophomore keeper. She had eight shutouts and saved 94 percent of the shots on goal.
“I can’t and don’t want to imagine where we would be if it wasn’t for her on the field,” Matthews said.
Erin Anderson, Lexi Garvin and Sam Zyskowski made the second all-league team. All three are juniors and played key roles for Hazen throughout the season.
Britney Boler, Katelyn Mellinger and Sarah Schoville earned honorable mentions.
The Highlanders went 10-5-1 this season, their best record since 1998. They scored 30 more goals than the previous year and placed fourth in the league. They play their first playoff game at home Nov. 4 at 5:30 against Sumner.
