Girls Soccer: Thursday results; Hazen stays perfect in Seamount play

Hazen welcomed Renton to the 2009 season rudely with a 10-0 win Thursday.

The Highlanders improved to 3-1 overall and remained perfect (3-0) in league play with the win. Renton (0-2) was playing in its first game since getting enough players eligible.

“We’re a little further along than Renton this year because of the number of practices and games we’ve played. The core of our team has been working out since the beginning of June. Renton just got their final four players eligible this week. That gave us an advantage,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews.

Hazen scoring:

  • 1:00 Kayla Hackman (assisted by Lexi Garvin)
  • 3:00 Hackman (assisted by Marina Vaughn)
  • 5:00 Skylar Irwin (assisted by Katelyn Mellinger)
  • 7:00 Taylor Hoover (unassisted)
  • 16:00 Vaughn (assisted by Sarah Schoville)
  • 19:00 Fabiana Stapleton (assisted by Tiana Ellison)
  • 21:00 Irwin (assisted by Stapleton)
  • 26:00 Vaughn (assisted by Mellinger)
  • 56:00 Hackman (assisted by Ellison)
  • 78:00 Vaughn (assisted by Erin Anderson)

“One of the things we’ve been trying to work on is being in control of the game 40-10-40. That is, two halves separated by the half time. We took a huge step towards that tonight. We want to never stop playing Highlander Soccer,” Matthews said.

Hackman now has 10 goals through four games, which leads the team. Vaughn leads the squad with five assists, she also has three goals.

Hazen is tied with Kennedy on top of the Seamount.

Liberty 2, Sammamish 2

After falling behind 0-2, Liberty scored two late goals to force a 2-2 tie with Sammamish Thursday.

The Patriots (0-3-2 overall, 0-0-2 KingCo) got goals from Treva LeRoy (Carly Mackinnon assist) and Casssidy Nangle (Shannon Daly) at 66 minutes and 76 minutes.
