The Hazen boys soccer team came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 match against state champs Interake Tuesday night in their season opener.
According to Coach Ken Matthews, Hazen started strong with “real threats” in the first part of the game.
“The guys were clicking and we had them back on their heels,” Matthews said in an email. “Overall we played aggressively and controlled play for extended periods.”
But it was not enough against the champs as Interlake picked up two goals on scrums in front of the net that resulted in rebounded balls getting put in from point blank range to give Interlake the win.
Matthews cited his defense for their excellent play in the loss.
Hazen is scheduled to host Liberty on Thursday at Hazen High School and Lindbergh Friday at Renton memorial Stadium.
