Hazen boys, Lindbergh girls win early rivalry games; Liberty stays perfect | Basketball

The Hazen boys basketball team led from start to finish and beat Lindbergh 66-56 Wednesday night. The Highlanders (2-1 overall, 1-0 Seamount) led 22-10 after the first quarter and 36-25 at the half. Lindbergh (2-1, 0-1) trailed by as many as 17 in the second half, then got as close as seven with late runs.

The Highlanders (2-1 overall, 1-0 Seamount) led 22-10 after the first quarter and 36-25 at the half. Lindbergh (2-1, 0-1) trailed by as many as 17 in the second half, then got as close as seven with late runs.

“We could’ve played better, but i take my hat off to them,” said Lindbergh coach Robert Graham. “They wanted it more than we did. We’ve just got to be a little bit more hungry.”

The Eagles actually outscored Hazen in the second and fourth quarters, and tied in the third. But they couldn’t overcome the first-quarter deficit.

Frankie Johnson led Hazen with 16 points. Dawit Kawa scored 15. Alex Olson and Emmanuel Oppong each added 12.

Colin Malone led Lindbergh with 15. Jimmy Keum scored 12 and Nate Cunningham added 11.

 

Girls

Airashay Rogers’ 27 points weren’t quite enough for Hazen as the Highlanders lost to Lindbergh 67-56 Wednesday night.

Lindbergh (2-1, 1-0) took control of the game with a 22-12 run in the third quarter after entering the half trailing by one point. Hazen’s (1-1, 0-1) Rogers led all scorers.

Emily Graver and Aleisha Simpson each scored 16 for Lindbergh. Sarah Radulovich added 11.

 

Liberty

Liberty stayed perfect on the young season with a 50-47 win against Bellevue Wednesday.

The Patriots (4-0, 2-0 KingCo 3A/2A) trailed by nine at the half, but went on a 14-4 run in the third quarter.

Delane Agnew scored 14 points to lead Liberty. Aspen Winegar added 13.
