Hazen boys soccer beats Highline | SPORTS ROUNDUP

Hazen boys soccer win at a 5-0 match and the girls tennis team beat Mouth Si.

On the road Friday, April 22, Hazen varsity soccer picked apart a good Highline team 5-0.

Getting goals for the Highlanders in the first half were senior forward Zach Quesnel at the 4-minute mark and senior defender and captain Hector Cervantes with 19 minutes left.

The second half featured a penalty kick by senior forward and captain Reyes Garcia before Sophomore mid Drew Wilson got two goals in eleven minutes to put the game out of reach. Getting assists for Hazen were junior mid Leon Bamba (2), junior mid Ethan Kem, and Wilson had one to go with his brace.

According to Hazen Head Coach Ken Matthews this was a typical Highline match.

“VBos (Hazen Coach Bre Vandenbos) reminded me that right after we took over the team five years ago we walked away from a win at Highline where we had two red cards and three yellows,” he said in a news release.

And, Highline had more reds and yellows than us in that game,” Matthews added. “Tonight wasn’t anything like that but over the years it’s been physical, but no more than we can expect in the playoffs.”

“We’re pretty focused on winning out to get that 3A first seed and end up 12-2-0 in league and it was great to see the guys maintaining their composure no matter what got thrown their way,” he said.

Junior keeper Luis Rodriguez had five saves in the shutout. Drew Wilson was Man of the Match.

In the JV match up Hazen won 3-1. Takoda Zuehlke, Angel Rincones and Jake Kraemer had goals. Lorenzo De Simone, Vincent Veldhoen and Jacob Rasmussen each had assists. Keepers Nathan McClane and Rasmussen shared the shutout.

The varsity team played Tuesday against Renton at Renton Memorial Stadium.

Hazen soccer player Ethan Kem was named the MaxPreps National Soccer Coaches National Association of America (NSCAA) State Player of the Week for April 4 10.

Kem is a junior midfielder for the Highlanders. As of last week, he had seven goals and 11 assists for Hazen this season.

He was named to the Seamount All-League team last year.
