The Hazen High School boys swim team participated in the Kentridge Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way on Jan. 6.
The invite is made up of 36 teams from all over the state. This was a great mid-season meet to see where the guys are in terms of the state competition, and for some of the JV swimmers, it is a good opportunity to race at a top-level pool against some of the fastest swimmers in the state. Hazen overall did well, finishing 12th. Hazen had four athletes get automatic state qualifying times. Dylan Doan, Owen Gerking, James Nguyen, and Andrew Nguyen made the state cut in the 200 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay as well as the 400 Free Relay.
Andrew Nguyen took 1st place overall in the 50 Free with a time of 21.47, which is an automatic state qualifying time. Owen Gerking took 2nd place overall in the 100 Butterfly, with a time of 52.17, which is also an automatic state qualifying time. The team has three meets left in the regular season, we are hoping to have a few more guys qualify for the post season. The state meet will be Feb. 16-17 in Federal Way at the King County Aquatic Center.
