Hazen ends Legion season with game-winning hit to beat Bellevue/Liberty | Baseball

The Hazen Post 19 Legion team ended the season with a bang, getting a game-winning hit from Julian Li in the bottom of the ninth to beat Bellevue/Liberty 7-6.

Liberty took the lead with a big third inning. The Patriots brought in five runs with a single, hit by pitch, walk and two doubles.

Hazen came back with six runs the next inning. Owen Day and Sam Cook hit RBI singles, while Jimmy Schmidt hit a three-RBI triple.

The Patriots tied the game at 6-6 with a run in the fourth inning. The game stayed tied for four more innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Hazen’s Ryan Chodykin got on base with a double to the right field gap. Li brought him home with a game-winning single up the middle.

Hazen finished the season 12-11. Liberty is 12-9 and has three games left.

Schmidt earned the win with six innings of relief pitching. He allowed five hits and no runs, while striking out four.
