The Hazen boys basketball team is one win away from state after beating Camas 73-68 in the West Central District 3A tournament Monday.
The Highlanders (19-6) began the district tournament by beating Kelso 64-56 in double overtime Feb. 16. Then Hazen lost to Lincoln 75-66 Feb. 18.
Hazen led 44-34 going into the half against Lincoln, but fell behind with a 25-13 fourth-quarter run from the Abes. Dawit Kasa led Hazen with 17 points in the game. De’Corrius Sampson scored 16 and R.J. Magar scored 13.
Now facing a loser-out situation on the consolation side of the bracket, Hazen went on to beat Bremerton 76-45 Feb. 19. Magar scored 33 points on seven-for-15 shooting from three-point range in the game. Magar also grabbed 10 rebounds.
With the win against Camas Monday, Hazen will now play league-rival Kennedy Catholic in a loser-out, winner-to-state game Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Clover Park High School.
Hazen lost to Kennedy 89-85 in overtime Dec. 10 and beat Kennedy 70-66 Jan. 14.
The Highlanders last went to state in 2002.
