Hazen girls tennis stays unbeaten with win over Foster

On Wednesday, the Highlanders took down the Foster Bulldogs 6-1 to stay undefeated on the season.

Hazen rolled through singles play, with first singles player Misa Takami defeating Eunica Serafica 6-3, 6-0 while Elise Wong bested Amna Masic 6-1, 6-2. In third singles, Ashley Hwang cruised past Nandina Cengic 6-0, 6-0 and Catherine Lin completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own over Aileen Nguyen.

In first doubles, Kitty Ling and Kristy Huynh beat Jessica Vilas and Jody Tran 6-3, 6-4 while the third doubles team of Arden Phu and Katherine Eng defeated Becky Chanthaphane and Merci Bawi 6-0, 6-4.

Foster’s only win of the day came when the team of Ciin Nuam and Angela Kostovic beat Gabbie Solis-Lazenby and Amy Huynh in a back-and-forth match that could have gone either way, but ended with the Foster team winning 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), (10-8).

According to Hazen Coach Gail Ellis, Solis-Lazenby and Huynh rallied from a 1-4 deficit to won the second set and then were up 5-8 in the third set tie-breaker before the Bulldogs rallied to take the win.

Hazen is scheduled to play at Highline tonight, Thursday and at Lindbergh on Friday.
