The Hazen and Liberty boys soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw Thursday night, as both teams look to get off to a strong start in their respective leagues.
The two well-matched teams battled to first-half nil-nil tie, but he Highlanders scored first when senior forward Zach Quesnel put one into the net off an assist from Robbie Schroeder in the 57th minute.
But 12 minutes later in the 68th minute, Liberty’s Holden Kooiker scored on a pass from Bradley Jarvis to tie the game.
Hazen outshot Liberty 16-2 in the game, but had trouble finding the net.
“This is a real derby game,” Hazen Coach Ken Matthews said in an email. “Its always a game to look forward to and tonight was another fantastic, entertaining match in front of a big crowd.”
The loss drops Hazen to 0-2-0 overall. They open Seamount League play at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, against Lindbergh at Renton Memorial Stadium. Lindbergh beat Liberty 2-1 on Tuesday.
Liberty moves to 1-1-1 overall. They play at Lake Washington on Tuesday.
