The Hazen wrestling team placed fourth at the Region II 3A championships at Kennedy Catholic High School Feb. 12.
The Highlanders scored 92 points, behind Kennedy Catholic with 122 points. Hazen advanced five wrestlers and one alternate to the 3A state meet.
Kyle Ely made the championship match at 189 pounds, but fell to Bishop Blanchet’s Peter Johnson. Ely will wrestle at state.
Hazen’s other state qualifiers: Josh Kluth (placed fourth at 103 pounds), Derek Coburn (fourth at 112 pounds), Austin Clark (fourth at 130 pounds) and Daniel Karpman (fourth at 135 pounds). Justin Russell took fifth at 285 pounds and is an alternate.
The 3A Seamount teams outscored all Metro League teams except O’Dea, which won the tournament. Highline finished second, Kennedy third and Hazen fourth.
Liberty
The Liberty wrestling team placed 13th at the Region I 3A championships Feb. 12 at Glacier Peak High School.
The Patriots scored 45 points as a team to finish 13th out of the 17 teams.
Hamilton Noel beat Mount Vernon’s Adolph Rivas with a 9-3 decision to earn the regional championship at 152 pounds.
Along with Noel, Jay Chakravarty also made the 3A state tournament at 160 pounds.
