After winning three games in five days to make the state tournament, the Hazen Highlanders playoff run came to a halt Tuesday night with a 1-0 first round loss to Interlake.
Interlake, currently ranked second in the state, scored in the 35th minute and was able to keep Hazen out of the net all night.
This was the second meeting of the season for the two teams as Hazen also opened their season with a 5-0 loss to Interlake, but Coach Ken Matthews said he was proud of how much his team had grown since their first meeting.
“I hope they’ll look back in a few days and realize how far they came from that first game,” he said in an email in which he called this a “great and memorable year.”
Prior to Tuesday’s loss, the Highlanders had come off an impressive win streak, including three games in five days.
Hazen ends the year with a 14-5-1 overall record.
