Hazen struggles from field and falls to Rams; Liberty and Renton also lose | Girls basketball

Mount Rainier 65, Hazen 39

Hazen took an early lead, but Mount Rainier caught fire in the second half and won 65-39 Friday.

The Highlanders (2-2 overall, 1-2 Seamount) led 16-9 through the first quarter, but the Rams 45 to Hazen’s 19 in the second half.

Gabrielle Redwine led Hazen with 10 points. Michelle Wnek added eight. Wnek also had four assists, five rebounds and five steals. Christy Argyle led Hazen with seven rebounds.

The Highlanders shot 23 percent on field goals, their worst mark of the young season.

Bellevue 55, Liberty 48

Bellevue beat Liberty 55-48 Friday night on the strength of a big second quarter advantage.

The Patriots (1-3, 1-1) could only manage five second-quarter points to Bellevue’s 18.

Danni Sjolander led Liberty with 13 points. Aspen Winegar added nine and Megan Tsutakawa scored eight.

Kennedy Catholic 63, Renton 41

Renton fell to Kennedy Catholic 63-41 Friday.

The Indians are 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Seamount.
